My new high school Chemistry classroom!

My new desk– this time, my computer is on a smaller desk to the side rather than on my larger desk. I like it this way because it gives me more room.

My view from the front. Even though my new classroom is gigantic, it can feel a bit cramped with all of the desks because of the lab islands around the perimeter. I have the desks in rows since the students can only enter on one side. Ideally, I would love to have desks where the students can get in on either side and then pair the desks up to save space– or have lab tables, but this seems to be working well :)

I have a wonderfully large window along one wall of my classroom that overlooks some beautiful trees outside as well as our football field. It gives great light throughout the day, especially in the afternoon!

This is my “student center” where my students can find extra paper, clip boards for labs, group supply bins for labs and group work, and individual supplies in the tower if they need something just for themselves. My ticket bins are also here as well. I was not sure how the high schoolers would respond to tickets, but they love them!

This is one of three student stations around the room. At this station students can sharpen their pencils, turn in their finished work, staple their work, three-hole-punch their work, use tape, blow their nose, and sanitize their hands! Each of my stations have all of the same supplies. See one of my other stations below.

Here is one of my other student stations, with all of the same supplies. The only other difference is that this one has all of the extra worksheets/handouts from class rather than the turn-in folder.

This is my desk. I like to put lots of fun things on my desk that show off my personality, give my students something interesting to look at, and make me smile.

Part of my white-board (cute, colorful border again) and wall decor. We are an AVID school, so I am sporting an AVID pennant as well as some colleges too. Of course I have some fun “Sciencey”/nerdy posters on my wall (I have to show my personality!).

Again, I enjoy creating unique and fun decor in my classroom that both showcase my interests and Science. I like having the framed photos of famous Scientists as a reminder of our past and who have lead us to our current place of knowledge. I also have my awesome plasma ball that I bring out for fun demos during the year, my Star Trek clock (again, my personality), and a picture of rowing (my collegiate sport as well as a representation of team work– very important in a Science classroom!). On the black cabinet I have magnet words for my students to crete poetry. So far, I have found a Haiku about food– it was during 4th period before lunch, so not much of a surprise there.

My books and chachkies. They make me smile when I see them and it gives a talking point for my students. They like to ask me about them.

My new classroom fish! I had my last one for 5 years. Each year, my students would add onto his name. by the end of his life, he became: T-Pain Frederick Copernicus Chuckles, PhD (they decided he needed a doctorate because he had been in school for so long). My students this year voted for Harambe! I believe he is quite happy in his new home and is spoiled with lots of food and clean water. I hope he lives as long as my last fish!
